Purpose / Scientific Focus

Watershed science  •  freshwater ecosystems  •  biogeochemistry  •  environmental contaminants

The Turkey Lakes Watershed is a long-term whole-ecosystem research site used to study how natural and human-driven environmental changes affect forest and freshwater ecosystems. Research has examined acid rain, biogeochemical and ecological processes, climate change, contaminants and forest management, providing long-term data that have contributed to advances in ecosystem and water science and environmental policy. Its network of interconnected lakes and streams provides an opportunity to study how changes across the watershed influence downstream water quality and aquatic ecosystems.
