Purpose / Scientific Focus

Post-fire soil development •  Carbon Sequestration Science  •  Reptile species at risk habitat

Located in Central Ontario, NOBEL is a key research site for advancing knowledge of boreal ecohydrology, climate change, and ecosystem resilience. The site integrates hydrology, ecology, carbon cycling, and wildfire research through an extensive network of hydrometeorological towers and instrumented wetlands. Its long-term observations support studies of wetland restoration, carbon sequestration, drought, wildfire impacts, and species-at-risk habitat, providing science that informs conservation and sustainable management of boreal landscapes.
